The Kilambakkam Bus Terminus is situated on GST Road in southern suburb of Tambaram and is one of the biggest bus terminals in South India. It is the connecting hub for the zingbus Chennai network which provides a direct route for travellers from this modern bus stand to reach southern Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. This bus stand is massive to alleviate the congestion at the old Koyambedu bus stand and serves as the main bus stand for the southern side of the city.
This bus stand is a frequent service bus stand from where the zingbus buses operate to Madurai, Coimbatore and Trichy for long-distance travellers, students and business travellers across Tamil Nadu. The terminus has well over a hundred bus bays spread out across a large campus, and is not touched by the traffic in central Chennai as it is located on the GST Road.
Kilambakkam Bus Terminus, officially the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus, opened to the public on 30 December 2023 on an 88.52-acre campus with 215 platforms, built by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority. It replaced Koyambedu as the city’s primary southbound bus stand, now serving all routes heading into southern Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry.
The terminus sits in Tambaram, on the GST Road (NH-32) corridor south of the city, giving it strong onward road connectivity toward Trichy, Madurai, and the far south. A dedicated Kilambakkam railway station is under construction alongside the bus terminus, and a metro extension has been proposed for the corridor, though neither is operational yet.
