Introduction of Mookambika Temple

The idol placed in the Mookambika Temple is made from the amalgamation of five metals – iron, gold, silver, lead, and copper.

When Devi Mookambika was travelling with Adi Shankaracharya, they witnessed a jyotirlinga. Watching it, Devi told him that she had to merge into the jyotirlinga.

She disappeared into it, and Adi Shankaracharya installed the idol of Mookambika Maa over the same. The Kollur temple is built around the idol and jyotirlinga for the devotees to worship.
