Alwar district lies in the state of Rajasthan and it is 148 km is from Jaipur. The place is famous for Olive plantation and it is one of the most famous tourist destinations near Delhi. It is located between the ancient hills of Aravalli Range and the place also has great historical significance.

Bhangarh Fort

Though the path to the temple is rocky and tedious, the visit to the temple makes all the pain go away. The temple was built in the 10th century and it is a worship place for Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma. The temple is quite an ancient and one can either walk on foot or rent a vehicle to reach to the temple.

As mentioned, the temple is dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma but Vishnu and Brahma doors are locked and only Shiva complex is open for worship. According to Hindu texts, at this location Lord Shiva consumed poison that was obtained from the sea when gods and Demons turned the ocean to get Amrit.

City Palace


This Palace is located just below the Alwar Fort and it lies in the foothills of Aravalli ranges. It was built in the 18th century and it is a perfect representation of Mughal and Rajput architectural styles. The Palace is now home to many government officials but common public can also visit to enjoy the beauty of the place.

The palace also has a museum and an artificial lake and together they look so beautiful that you cannot take your eyes off. It was built in the 18th century and the museum houses different ancient treasures like armour, furniture, manuscripts, etc.

Vijay Mandir Palace

Vijay Mandir Palace is located 10 km away from the main city of Alwar. It was built by Maharaja Jai Singh and it is a huge and splendid architecture. But what catches the eyes of most of the travellers is the beautiful Sita Rama Temple which is mostly crowded at any given point of time.

Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri

This structure was built by Vinay Singh for Maharani Moosi to commemorate her. She had committed sati on her husband and the structure was constructed in her honour. The place is famous for the sunset view which is the most beautiful part of the day and the walls which are made up of marbles. The design of the ceilings present one stories after another and the intricate detailings on the whole structure is worth the visit.

The structure has a pillared design which are made up of red sandstone and the roofs are rounded with splendid arches. There are paintings on the walls and the complex has thousands of colourful birds and peacocks moving around the whole day.

Jagannath Temple

This temple is very famous for the Ratha Yatra that takes place here. It is dedicated to Lord Jagannath or Lord Vishnu. It is a mediaeval era structure and there are floral motives on the huge pillars.

One important belief about this place is that planes do not fly over the temple because above the temple there is an eight metal wheel which creates obstacles in the communication of the aeroplanes. Another belief about the places that even birds do not fly above the temple because the temple looks like a Sudarshan Chakra and hence birds are afraid of it.

Karni Mata Temple

This temple is quite unique in the whole world because it houses approximately 20,000 black rats that live here and they are also worshipped. There is a popular belief that these rights are reincarnation of descendants of Karni Mata. The temple is made with marbles and the gates are made with silver.

The devotees who come here offer food to the rats and the leftover food is eaten by them as a Prasad. The architecture of the place was designed and developed under the Mughal rule as we can witness that it is made up of sandstone, marbles and has beautiful arcades, domes, etc.
