Located in the east of Manali and Pir Panjal range in Himachal Pradesh, one of the most scenic attractions is the Hampta Pass. It lies at an elevation of 4,268 meters from Kullu Valley and acts as a bridge between Kullu Valley and Lahaul.

However, the maximum altitude that a trekker scales in this trek is about 14000 feet. The tour begins from Manali and passes Chikka, Spiti Valley, and beautiful flora and fauna.

Hampta Pass Trek could be a surreal experience of a lifetime. The vivid variations in landscape every few hours of trekking on the Hampta Pass and the abundance of natural beauty will surprise you at every twist and turn of the mountain.

First, you will witness two incredible valleys, the beautiful Kullu Valley and Spiti Valley. These treks vary from easy to moderate trails and are best for beginner trekkers and venturers. The Hampta Pass trek consists of rocky inclines and high vertical climbs.

Major Attractions:

The Pass Crossing:

It is the most thrilling part of the Hampta Pass trek. You will be required to climb three ledges simultaneously on this trek, where the pass is an eclectic passage itself, which could last for some time before it goes high up from the mountain.

Mountain Villages:

One of the fascinating things about the trek is the scenic view and charming villages throughout the journey. The villages are a great stop to relax and unwind.

Sethan Village is one of the major attractions and charming villages nearby, which is 8,860 ft and is a 45-minute drive from Manali. Sethan is a village of Buddhists and is covered by the astonishing Dhauladhar Ranges.

Scenic Campsites:

The most beautiful and scenic campsites on the Hampta Trek are the Balu ka Ghera and Shea Goru. Among these is the Balu Ka Ghera is located on the riverside, offering a great view in front of you and the spread-out valley behind, whereas the Shea Goru is filled with greenery in the front and mountains from all the other corners.

Chandratal Lake:

The fascinating attraction of the Hampta Pass Trek is the presence of a beautiful crescent-shaped lake, Chandratal Lake. The beautiful brown and red mountains of Lahaul cover the lake. It is also known as Moon Lake because of its shape. What makes this lake special is that it changes colors throughout the day.

Flora and Fauna:

The mountains of the Himalayas are also known for their biodiversity. The flora that can be seen on the trek are gigantic yet mesmerizing Pinewood, Deodar, Maple, Oak, and Silver Birch trees. The wildlife includes Himalayan Birds such as the whistling thrushes and white-capped redstart and the animals like shepherd dogs and sheep.

Mountain Range:

Throughout the trek, you can witness the beauty of the enormous Dhauladhar Range and the Pir Panjal Range, as well as the panoramic views of Deo Tibba, Mt. Indrasen, from the top of the pass.

Who Can do this trek:

  • The climber should be healthy and fit and be able to carry 10-15 kilograms of the backpack to cover the distance of 4 kilometers in 30 minutes to 1 hour without stress.
  • First-timers can also visit.
  • People with heart problems, high blood pressure, asthma, and epilepsy are advised not to take the tour.
  • Children below the age of 15 years should have a guardian/parent.
  • Trekkers between 15 to 18 years are allowed to trek solo, however, a disclaimer form is required to be signed by parents/guardians.

How To Reach:

The trekker must reach Manali from Delhi or Chandigarh. Chandigarh to Manali is a 10-hour route by bus, whereas Delhi to Manali is a 14-hour route by bus. Opting govt. buses over private buses are recommended to avoid cancellation or delay issues.

You can also take a train from Pathankot railway station to Manali, which is an overnight journey of about 300 km.

You can also choose to fly to Chandigarh and board a bus from there to Manali.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Delhi – Manali

Day 2: After reaching Manali, our representative will assist you with your stay in Manali. You get a day for leisure and sightseeing.

Day 3: Manali to Pandu Ropa. The trek will start by driving to Prini, and from Prini, a 4 hrs trek is the first step towards the Hampta Pass. An overnight stay in the Pandu Ropa is planned for relaxing.

Day 4: Pandu Ropa to Chikka. After breakfast, our regular trek will begin. We will start by passing through the forest and meadow to the Chikka camp, which is an ideal campsite for an overnight stay in tents.

Day 5: Chikka to Balu Ka Gera: On the fifth day, after breakfast, we will move towards the uphill and steep climb to Juara and eventually climb gradually to Balu ka Gera, again for an overnight stay in tents.

Day 6: Balu ka Gera – Hampta Pass: After breakfast, we will move forwards towards the Hampta Pass, which is a tough climb for an initial 3 km, after which we reach the campsite from where the beauty of Mt. Deo Tibba and Indrasan, as well as the Lahaul valley, can be witnessed, followed by an overnight stay in tents.

Day 7: Hampta Pass to Chatru: On day 7, you will trek to Chatru and stay overnight at a campsite.

Day 8: Chatru to Manali: After breakfast, we will head towards Manali via Rohtang Pass. And from there, you will head back to Delhi via bus.

Day 9: You will arrive in Delhi by morning.
